Oliver’s story
Oliver has been unemployed for over 20 years. There have been many barriers that have prevented him from securing work and which has had an effect on his confidence and made him feel like he was “past it” and feeling very lonely and isolated. We suggested volunteering at the Upcycle Birmingham warehouse for a couple of hours a week. He had a look around and a chat with Graham our Upcycle Manager and he is now regularly volunteering and enjoying it. We hope this will lead to more confidence and give him a better outlook on life.
Michael’s story
Michael heard about our Upcycling project through a family friend and was looking for something to keep him busy while deciding what he wanted to do. Michael has qualifications in a variety of areas but is still undecided on his career path. He values the time spent with Upcycle and loves the experience when we unearth valuable items in amongst things that have been thrown away. He has a number of repair and upcycling projects underway including a refurbished table and drawers set.
